Petzl recently released a statement on the safety of their I’D descenders.
They have stated that any of their products, pre-ANSI Rating, have no changes apart from the ANSI markings, therefore they will all meet the strength and performance requirements covered in the standard. For full details on the statement, see the attached press release.
The second document attached, also released by Petzl, outlines some key guidelines to be aware of while using the Petzl I’D during a rescue.
The main topic being the weight restrictions in the event of a rescue. 200kgs (or 440lbs) is the recommended safe weight limit of the device, this should be taken into consideration when making rescue plans.
